PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
To complete the Animal Sciences minor, students must successfully complete 15 credits. All students must complete ASC 101, ASC 102 or ASC 382, and at least nine credits of additional coursework from a pre-approved list (Group A and B). At least one course must be selected from Group A and one from Group B.
MINOR PREREQUISITES
Several courses in Group A and Group B have prerequisites beyond the required minor courses of ASC 101 and ASC 102 or ASC 382. Students enrolled in the Animal Sciences minor are responsible for satisfying these prerequisites.
Minor REQUIREMENTS
ASC 101 Domestic Animal Biology
Introduction to the biological principles of animal sciences with emphasis on anatomy, nutrition, reproduction, and breeding and genetics of livestock, poultry, and horses. (3 credits) Prereq: Fall semesters Animal Science majors only
ASC 102 Introduction to Livestock and Poultry Production
An introduction to livestock and poultry production. Emphasis is placed on the application of anatomy, physiology, nutrition, feeds and feeding, reproduction, breeding and genetics, and behavior in the production and management of livestock and poultry in the U.S. (3 credits) Prereq: ASC 101
ASC 382 Animal Production Principles
A broad survey of animal agriculture covering beef cattle, dairy cattle, goats, horses, poultry, sheep and swine. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of anatomy, breeding and genetics, feeding, nutrition, physiology and reproduction of livestock and poultry species in the United States. For nonmajors only. (3 credits) Prereq: None
