DESIGN FOR A RESILIENT FUTURE

The Landscape Architecture (LA) program, a creative STEM degree, prepares students to create human environments that are artful, socially relevant, sustainable, and functional.

The landscape architecture profession involves the design of sustainable communities, the experimental quality of place, and the thoughtful stewardship of the land. Students in the LA program learn the art and science of designing, planning, and managing natural and built environments.

From their first semester to their last, students are taught by distinguished faculty who prioritize undergraduate education. Small class sizes allow faculty to provide each student with individualized attention, mentorship and instruction. Our 4-year LA program is accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board and meets the requirements for professional licensure in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

GRAY DESIGN BUILDING

The Gray Design Building (GDB) is home to the Department of Landscape Architecture. This newly renovated building located on the northside of campus in the future innovation distrct contains 100,000 square feet of open studio space, classrooms, and a fabrication laboratory. Our students learn alongside students in Architecture, Historic Preservation, Interior Design and Product Design. The GDB is a space that truly encourages interaction and collaboration across disciplines.

Experiential Learning

Hands-on learning is at the heart of what we do in LA. Our program provides students with opportunities to practice their classroom learning in real-world settings. Our students are connected to the community in which they live and learn via service-learning in studios, internships, Design Week, and much more.

Academic Enrichment

Our college believes in learning by doing. Our students are required to complete at least one type of experiential or hands-on learning opportunity, such as undergraduate research, an internship or an education abroad experience.

Scholarships

Thanks to generous alumni, donors and community partners, we have one of the largest scholarship programs at UK. Only one application is required for our college’s scholarships, but there are hundreds of potential awards.
