In the MSVS degree program, you’ll explore the biology of horses through advanced coursework, hands-on research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. With a strong foundation in scientific inquiry and communication, you’ll investigate the causes and mechanisms that impact equine health, performance, and productivity.
Choose a path that fits your goals: a research-oriented thesis option (Plan A) or a design-oriented non-thesis option (Plan B). Both options require 30 credit hours, with Plan A students eligible to count six credit hours of research residency towards that total. While a bachelor’s degree in animal science, biology, equine science and management, or related field is advantageous, applicants with equivalent degrees may be admitted.
As an MSVS student, you’ll specialize in areas such as infectious disease, parasitology, immunology, genetics, reproductive physiology, pharmacology, or musculoskeletal sciences, all with an equine emphasis, preparing you to lead in a wide range of equine-focused careers or continue your academic journey towards a Ph.D. or other advanced degrees.
