In the PhD degree program, you’ll address pressing global challenges in agriculture, food security, and environmental sustainability through advanced coursework, hands-on learning, and interdisciplinary research. By integrating plant biology, soil science, crop science, horticulture, ecology, and plant pathology, you’ll develop innovative solutions that support resilient ecosystems and sustainable agricultural systems.

This research-intensive program is tailored to each student’s interests and career goals and is developed in consultation with a faculty advisory committee. Students must demonstrate deep expertise in their field through the successful completion of advanced coursework and comprehensive exams as well as the presentation of original research in a scholarly dissertation.

As a PhD student, you’ll collaborate across disciplines to engage in impactful research and connect with academic, industry, and community partners. You’ll be prepared to lead in careers spanning research, education, plant production systems, environmental policy, and public service.
